...at a place near Your altar

"Even the sparrow finds a home, and the swallow builds her nest and raises her young at a place near your altar, O Lord of Heaven’s Armies, my King and my God!...What joy for those whose strength comes from the Lord."
Psalm 84:3, 5

I read these verses today and thought to myself, "That's where I want to be, and that's where I want to lead my children. Better yet, that's where I want to raise them...at a place near Your altar, O Lord." It makes all the difference. I know I react differently to fussy children and chaos when I draw near to Him.

This little bird isn't just stopping by for a visit! She's building her nest there in order to do her work--to raise her young.

I'm going to ponder this and ask the Lord to show me what this should look like in my home.

Just what this tired mommy needed to read today!

"I listen carefully to what God the Lord is saying, for he speaks peace to his faithful people."
Psalm 85:6

Jenny, thanks for sharing these verses. They are very telling of where we should all be.

I have taken a couple of your readings now and used them for P.E.O., a women's educational group in which I am the "chaplain," sharing passages from the bible at the beginning of each meeting.

Do you have a particular devotional that you get your scripture suggestions from, or are the ones you post usually suggested by your church as part of the sermon or bible study?

Oh Jenny, *thank you* for sharing these challenging and encouraging scriptures and thoughts. Yes, I want to be at His altar, too! What a beautiful picture... one that I will remember often as I go about the business and busyness of the day.

Happiest Mommies~

I've been using Kay Arthur's Inductive Bible Study Series. Right now I'm reading through the Psalms. The verses I've posted here are just a few that have "popped out" at me during my quiet time.

Yes, Jenny, Boo and I reading aloud thru the Little House series. We both LOVE it. I haven't read the series since I was a child; it is truly delightful. Boo is as captivated with Laura and Mary as I am.

What lucky children to have a Mommy so centered and devoted to where her heart, mind, and spirit should be. Thank you for a reminder of where I need to be.

A blue jay happened upon my front door wreath this morning. Bella (our dog) and I listened. The blue jay didn't know that the eggs on my Easter wreath are actually lightly painted styrofoam eggs! We heard the scratching, listened and then calmed down. It was so sweet to have this close interaction between me, my dog and an unknown blue jay. Thank you Jesus.
